Making Shortbread

This week in nursery we are having a Scottish ~Week to help us celebrate St. Andrews Day on Friday. So far we have searched the internet and found some good demonstrations of highland dancing which we then copied. We have also learned about the legend of the Loch Ness Monster (we liked that) and we have made orange finger shortbread (which was yummy). This is Marcello having fun exploring the flour!!

The Animal Man Came Today

Here are Leo and Lucia meeting the guinnea pig today. We also met a tortoise, a duck, a hen (called chicken nugget), a corn snake, a bearded dragon lizard, a rat, a mouse, a tarantula, a rabbit, a cockroach and a lizard.
We were all very well behaved and followed rules set out for us for our safety.
We also used gel to sanitize our hands after touching some of the animals as we have been learning about keeping our hands free from germs.

Road Safety

Today we practised road safety by playing in our cars and bikes and stopping at signs (held by Ella). We are learning more about how to keep ourselves and others safe by following rules indoors and outdoors. Yesterday we went on a “safety walk” and managed to use 3 pelican crossings and 3 zebra crossings!! We have also been looking out for things that may harm us in the environment. So far we have come across broken glass, barbed wire, spikey railings, dogs and dog poo, traffic and people we don’t know.

The Miracle

Yes, it is true, something truly amazing has happened here at Clarence House Nursery. We have discovered some little stick insects that have hatched from a pile of eggs left here by the visiting stick insects (Green Beans with Legs post).
The thing is we did not attempt to hatch them and they were sort of forgotten about and put in a container in the office. So Ann Felice if you are reading this HELP – we are not sure what to feed them?? The big insects ate bramble leaves so we are going to try that. Oh and if they decided to breed like mad we will need homes for them. Just a warning!!

In the photo you see Jonah, Mora and Lucia taking a closer look.

Being Safe Outdoors

This afternoon we played outside, running in and out of this giant puddle in the garden. We are learning to move about safely outdoors and glad to say none of us got bumped or fell over into the puddle today!
Other things we did today were good hand washing before baking and following rules on the climbing frame.
