At the Allotment

SUMMER 2013 300

This was last week when Caroline (an ex parent) invited us along to her allotment to help her pull some vegetables. We helped pick peas, rhubarb, potatoes, carrots and courgettes. We saw lots of interesting things growing and we were very responsible and were careful not to step on things that were growing or go into other people’s gardens. Caroline gave us some vegetables to take back to nursery and we ate them for snack. We especially enjoyed popping all the pea pods and eating the sweet juicy peas!! We have promised to make Caroline a scarecrow as a “thank you”!!!!

Ice Insects

SUMMER 2013 123
This is what we did today – used our hammers and other tools to try and break ice. There were some insects (plastic) inside the ice.
Louise helped us organize this because she knew it would cool us down in all this heat!!
We saw some children do this on an internet site and Jonah liked the idea of adding the insects.
Jonah “it was hard to break the ice because the ice was harder than the hammer”.

Pink Lemonade

SUMMER 2013 011
During a small group discussion about Laurie’s birthday party one of the children asked if she was having pink lemonade.
This made us all laugh as we hadn’t heard about pink lemonade. Melanie helped us look for a recipe on the internet and we found a good one that used raspberries and lemons. Making the lemonade was quite tricky as the process had lots of stages – but it was very delicious and we all had a cup of pink lemonade with our lunch to help Laurie celebrate her birthday.
The photograph above shows Jonah and Maggie extracting the juice from the fruit.

Keeping Cool

Here is Dathan making the most of our giant paddling pool. We have had the pool out ALL WEEK!!! Actually we have 2 pools. This is the noisy splashy pool that is very popular with all the boys and Thea!! The other is a smaller and quieter pool for those of us who don't like being splashed.
